BCB is beginning a new chapter in history

In a landmark move for Bangladesh cricket, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to inaugurate its first-ever regional branch office, marking a historic step in decentralising cricket administration across the country. The inaugural office will open in Sylhet, with the formal launch scheduled as early as tomorrow, according to a source within the board.

This initiative forms part of BCB’s broader strategy to strengthen cricket development at the divisional and grassroots levels. By establishing regional offices, the board aims to bring administration, training, and development activities closer to local talent, ensuring that cricketing infrastructure and governance are accessible beyond the capital, Dhaka.

Following the Sylhet launch, similar offices are planned in other divisions, including Chittagong, Barishal, and Khulna. Unlike earlier models referred to as “associations,” these offices will carry the name of their respective divisions — for example, “BCB Sylhet” or “BCB Chittagong” — to reinforce a sense of regional identity.

Each office will be headed by a Chief Officer responsible for overseeing all operations within the region. A dedicated organisational structure and staff framework will support their work, enabling efficient administration, talent scouting, and local cricket development. Recruitment for these leadership positions will be advertised publicly to ensure qualified and skilled individuals are appointed.

The BCB draws inspiration from successful regional management systems employed by cricketing nations such as India, Australia, and England, where state and regional bodies play a vital role in fostering professional cricket and nurturing young players. Through this decentralised structure, cricket administration outside Dhaka is expected to become more robust and responsive.

The timing of the Sylhet office launch coincides with the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches being held in the city. Notably, all matches originally scheduled in Chittagong have been relocated to Sylhet, which adds significance to the new office’s inauguration. Since assuming the BCB presidency, Aminul Islam Bulbul has emphasised the development of regional cricket, reflecting a strategic commitment to expanding the sport’s reach and professional management across Bangladesh.

Planned BCB Regional Offices

Division Office Name Chief Officer Key Functions
Sylhet BCB Sylhet To be appointed Administration, talent development, local league coordination
Chittagong BCB Chittagong To be appointed Administration, coaching programs, youth scouting
Barishal BCB Barishal To be appointed Regional tournaments, coaching, facility management
Khulna BCB Khulna To be appointed Grassroots cricket, player development, events coordination

With this transformative initiative, the BCB signals a new era for cricket in Bangladesh, one in which regional centres become pivotal hubs for nurturing talent, enhancing governance, and promoting the sport nationwide.
