The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has elected its new governing body as of last Monday. The very next day (Tuesday), the newly elected members convened for the first board meeting, where several important decisions were taken on the opening day. Among the 25 newly elected directors, 23 committee heads were selected. It has now emerged that the BCB is planning to organise cricket tournaments for madrasa students as well.
BCB’s newly appointed full-term president, Aminul Islam Bulbul, also attended another event, where he shared the news with the media. He confirmed that, alongside the ongoing school and college cricket initiatives, the board intends to expand cricket into madrasas across the country.
Bulbul, a former captain of the Bangladesh national team, stated: “There are millions of students in madrasas. If even a few talented cricketers emerge from there, we are making arrangements for that.”
Previously, the BCB has been organising school-level cricket tournaments, and now madrasa students will be included in these developmental pathways under the new initiative.
The newly elected president has also indicated the possible format for the madrasa cricket tournaments. Bulbul said:
“Detailed discussions have not taken place yet. But since we have planned it, we will certainly try to implement it. For now, it will be in a short T20 format.”
This move signals the BCB’s broader vision of nurturing talent from diverse educational backgrounds, ensuring that cricket reaches every corner of Bangladesh, including institutions that were previously less represented in the sport.
Initiative | Details |
Target group | Madrasa students across Bangladesh |
Format | T20 (short format, initial plan) |
Objective | Discover and nurture cricketing talent from madrasas |

With this expansion, the BCB aims to broaden its talent pool and provide equal opportunities for young cricketers from both conventional schools and religious educational institutions.
