Bhutan’s Prime Minister Departs Dhaka

Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has departed Dhaka after his three-day state visit. He left the capital on Monday (24 November) morning.

Upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus welcomed him. He was given a guard of honour and a gun salute on the occasion. Later, he visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, paid tribute to the martyrs and planted a sapling there.

During the visit, Prime Minister Tobgay paid a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin. Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin also held separate meetings with the visiting Bhutanese premier.

On Saturday, the Bhutanese Prime Minister and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser held a formal meeting in a cordial atmosphere. They conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations, placing special emphasis on enhancing trade, connectivity, economic cooperation and people-to-people ties.

On Sunday, the Bhutanese premier met delegations from BNP, Jamaat and NCP.

Notably, accompanying Prime Minister Tobgay on this visit were Bhutanese Foreign Minister Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel, Industry and Commerce Minister Lyonpo Namgyal Dorji, and several senior officials from Bhutan.
