Shabnaz, the acclaimed actress who brought a fresh wave of popularity to the film industry in the 1990s, celebrates her birthday today. Among prominent stars like Shabana, Bobita, Rozina, Sunetra, Diti, Suchorita, and Champa, she introduced a new light of youth to the silver screen. Today, 29 October, marks the birthday of this talented actress.
Although known to audiences as ‘Shabnaz,’ her family name is Sabrina Tania. She is the eldest of three sisters.
Shabnaz’s father, S. M. Humayun, was a theatre artist and personally acquainted with director Azizur Rahman. Through Azizur Rahman and filmmaker Ehtesham, Shabnaz stepped onto the silver screen.
She entered the film industry with the movie Chandni. Under the direction of Ehtesham, she debuted on the big screen alongside Dhallywood’s popular actor Nayeem. During the 1990s, this duo had the ability to keep audiences awake all night with their on-screen performances.
Notable films starring the Shabnaz–Nayeem pair include:Zid, Love, Chokhe Chokhe, Onutopto, Bisher Banshi, Sonia, Takar Ohongkar, Sakkhat, and Ghore Ghore Juddho.
Their films were not only commercially successful but also featured songs that became widely popular among audiences. In particular, the song Kal Keno Asheni remains equally cherished by fans today.
One of the reasons for the duo’s popularity in Dhallywood was that audiences often felt monotony seeing the same faces repeatedly. Shabnaz and Nayeem broke this monotony, bringing fresh energy and liveliness to viewers’ hearts.
At the peak of her on-screen popularity, Shabnaz married Nayeem in 1994, after falling in love. The couple, who captivated audiences as an on-screen pair, are also known to be happily married in real life. They have two daughters together.
In 2001, the couple appeared in Azizur Rahman’s film Ghore Ghore Juddho. After a gap of six years, they reunited on screen in his 2007 movie Doctor Bari. Most recently, this accomplished actress was seen performing opposite Afzal Hossain in a televised drama package.
