Blackpink’s Lisa Will Star in Netflix’s ‘Extraction’ Universe Thriller ‘Tygo’

Blackpink star Lisa is poised to return to the screen very soon. On Thursday, the streaming giant Netflix made a significant announcement regarding the release of an action-thriller film titled ‘Tygo’, which serves as a spin-off to the popular ‘Extraction’ franchise. This film will star the K-pop sensation Lisa, alongside Korean actor Don Lee and ‘Squid Game’ star Lee Jin-uk. Lisa expressed her excitement about joining the project in a statement. She remarked that she is incredibly honoured to be a part of this project and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such incredible actors. She further added that appearing in an action film has always been a dream of hers, and for her first film role to be in such an exciting action movie is truly a dream come true.

The film, directed by Lee Sang-yong, will follow the character of Tygo, a former child soldier. The plot centres on his quest for revenge against Korea’s underworld after a mission goes terribly wrong. Angela Russo-Otstot, producer and chief creative officer of AGBO, stated that they are thrilled to explore the world of Extraction through a South Korean lens. She highlighted the collaboration with legendary action star Don Lee and visionary director Lee Sang-yong, noting that their dynamic choreography exemplifies the world-class craft of Korean cinema. The Extraction films are originally based on a graphic novel titled ‘Ciudad’, created by Anthony and Joe Russo along with Ande Parks.

The key cast and crew members are listed below:

Name Role/Identity
Lisa (Blackpink) Actress
Don Lee Actor (Korean action star)
Lee Jin-uk Actor (Squid Game fame)
Lee Sang-yong Director
Angela Russo-Otstot Producer (AGBO)

Additionally, a new Extraction series is in the works, starring Omar Sy, Boyd Holbrook, and Natalie Dormer. The film ‘Tygo’ will follow in the footsteps of 2020’s Extraction and 2023’s Extraction 2. Both were highly successful Netflix projects, with the first film garnering viewership from 90 million households in its first month alone. Lee commented that Tygo brings a distinctly Korean identity into the global Extraction universe and that they cannot wait to unleash its explosive energy on audiences worldwide.
