In Birampur village of Brahmanbaria Sadar, a violent clash erupted among six brothers over their mother’s funeral. One person, identified as Nasir Uddin, was killed, and at least a hundred others were injured. Alongside the six brothers, members of two influential local groups—Harun and Sacchu—also became involved in the conflict.
It is reported that about seven months ago, a dispute over playing Ludo had triggered a clash among the same six brothers, and tensions have continued since then. Recently, after their mother passed away, a new conflict arose regarding the location of her funeral and burial. Four of the six brothers decided to hold the funeral at the Birampur Eidgah grounds in Brahmanbaria Sadar. The other two brothers opposed this, insisting that the funeral should take place in the Purbo Para area.
Eventually, the four brothers completed the funeral at the Eidgah grounds. Enraged by this, the other two brothers set fire to the four brothers’ house. From early morning, both sides engaged in violent clashes with domestic weapons, cricket pads, and life jackets, which continued until around 10 a.m. One side was supported by Harun’s chairman group from Hajibari, while the other was backed by Sacchu’s group from Khalpara.
Upon receiving news of the clash, the army and police arrived at the scene and attempted to control the situation. However, the fighting continued intermittently. During this time, several houses were set on fire, and looting also occurred.
Azharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station, stated that several of the injured have been admitted to local hospitals. One seriously injured person was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
