BNP Has Not Yet Given Green Signal to Any Candidate, Clarifies Ruhul Kabir Rizvi

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has not granted the green light to any candidate for the upcoming national parliamentary election, senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has confirmed.

Speaking at a press conference at the party office in Nayapaltan on Tuesday, 23 September, Rizvi clarified that candidate selection will follow the party’s established procedures: “At the appropriate time, eligible candidates will be carefully verified and selected through the party’s formal process, and only then will their names be officially announced.”

Rizvi addressed recent media and social media reports that allegedly circulated lists of BNP nominations, stating:

  • Such publications are creating confusion, dissatisfaction, and disorder among party activists.
  • It is believed that these false reports are part of a deliberate attempt to sow division within the party.

He emphasised: “Let me be clear: the BNP is taking full preparations for the upcoming general election. Party workers should not be misled by these fabricated reports.”

Rizvi outlined the official nomination procedure:

  • Candidates are selected based on performance in various party activities and their suitability for the role.
  • BNP nominations are issued through the party’s internal organisational mechanism, not via any external “green signal”.
  • The Parliamentary Board is responsible for finalising candidate nominations for the national election or any other election. Its decision is considered final and binding.

He appealed to the party’s nationwide leadership and activists: “Until the official schedule is announced and the acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, releases the formal list, do not be misled by fabricated reports circulating in the media.”

Rizvi also highlighted that BNP’s acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, is providing specific and precise instructions for all party activities, ensuring coordinated efforts in every constituency. He urged all party members to remain united and work in harmony to strengthen the party’s electoral strategy.
