Following its decisive victory in the 13th national parliamentary elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is actively shaping its new cabinet, balancing experience with fresh talent. The party, set to return to government after nearly two decades, has already nearly finalised the structure of its ministerial team, according to recent reports.
On Saturday, 14 February, BBC Bangla published a report citing leading national newspapers. The report highlighted that The Business Standard listed as its second top story: “Fresh faces and old guards: BNP to blend continuity with change in new cabinet.” This signals the party’s intention to combine seasoned leaders with newcomers in the upcoming government.
The proposed cabinet will reportedly include a mix of elected representatives and technocrats. Several key appointments under consideration are:

The Election Commission has so far confirmed 297 parliamentary seats, of which the BNP has secured 209, giving it a clear majority. The government has indicated that the new cabinet could be formally constituted by 18 February, paving the way for the party’s return to executive office.
In the absence of Begum Khaleda Zia, party leadership now rests with her son, Tarique Rahman, who is expected to assume the position of Prime Minister. Analysts suggest that the combination of experienced politicians and technocratic newcomers may strengthen policy formulation and governance, signalling a government prepared to deliver both continuity and reform.
As BNP navigates its return to power, the formation of its cabinet will be closely watched, with public expectations high for effective administration and innovative policymaking.
