Body of Missing Easybike Driver Found on Mosque Roof Four Days After Disappearance

Police have recovered the partially decomposed body of an easybike driver, Hossain Mohammad Jahangir (Dulal) Melkar (40), from the roof of the Upazila Parishad Jame Mosque in Hajimchar, Chandpur — four days after he went missing.

The incident came to light on Thursday (October 30) noon when locals noticed a foul smell coming from the mosque area. Later, police from Hajimchar Police Station recovered the body and took it to the station.

The deceased, Dulal Melkar, was the eldest son of Hasim Melkar of Purbochar Krishnapur village under Ward No. 3 of Algi Durgapur South Union, adjacent to Hajimchar Upazila Parishad.

Locals said that Dulal Melkar, who earned his living by driving an easybike, went out for Fajr prayers on October 27 and never returned home. After four days of disappearance, around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, a foul odor started emanating from inside the Upazila Parishad Jame Mosque. When the mosque’s imam and an on-duty Ansar member went to investigate the source of the smell, they went up to the roof and found the partially decomposed body of Dulal Melkar. They immediately informed the police.

Upon receiving the news, family members rushed to the spot and identified the body as that of Dulal Melkar. Police later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue at Chandpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

The deceased’s wife, Tamanna Begum, said that her husband had no enemies and lived a peaceful life with his wife and only son. He used to support the family by driving an easybike.

Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police (Chandpur Sadar Circle) Md. Khairul Kabir visited the scene after receiving the news.

He said that upon receiving the information around 12:30 p.m., police went to the spot and identified the deceased as Hossain Mohammad Jahangir Dulal Melkar, who had been missing since Monday. However, the family had not filed any general diary (GD) with the police regarding his disappearance.

He added that the body has been sent to the morgue of Chandpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy. As the body was partially decomposed, the exact cause of death could not be determined immediately. An unnatural death case (UD case) has been filed in connection with the incident. Further legal action will be taken after receiving the autopsy report.

Meanwhile, a team from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Chandpur also visited the scene following the recovery of the body.
