A boiler explosion at a factory in Chittagong has left eleven workers injured, authorities reported on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. in the Oxygen area of the city, raising immediate concerns about industrial safety standards.
According to initial reports, the explosion took place inside a room where workers were engaged in manufacturing bottles intended for liquid products. The sudden blast caused panic among staff and prompted an immediate emergency response.
Two fire service units arrived at the scene within minutes and brought the situation under control in approximately thirty minutes. Fire Service officials indicated that the explosion is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit, which then triggered the boiler to explode. Units from the Bayezid and Kalurghat fire stations also attended the site to assist in controlling the fire and ensuring the safety of nearby areas.
The factory management reportedly took swift action to evacuate the injured workers and admitted them to the company’s on-site hospital. Of the eleven affected, eight received primary treatment and were discharged, while three remain under medical supervision. Officials have not yet disclosed the extent of their injuries but confirmed that they are receiving continuous care.
The incident has drawn attention to the safety protocols in industrial facilities across Chittagong, a major industrial hub of Bangladesh. Authorities are now investigating whether the factory adhered to national safety regulations and whether preventative measures, such as regular electrical inspections and boiler maintenance, were in place.
