Bound and Drowned: Young Man Found Dead in Baufal Pond

In a shocking incident in Baufal Upazila, Patuakhali District, police recovered the body of a 22-year-old man, Md. Shakil Mridha, from a local pond on Monday afternoon, 16 February. The deceased was found with his hands and feet bound, floating near the Adabaria Union Parishad building.

Shakil Mridha, the son of Abdus Sobahan Mridha of Adabaria Union, had been working at the Adabaria counter for vehicles operating on the Dhaka–Baufal–Dashmina route. Locals reported that he went out from home on Sunday and did not return that night.

According to local Dafadar Md. Rafiqul Islam, Shakil’s body was discovered around 11:00 am by villagers who immediately alerted the police. Officers arrived at the scene and retrieved the body, noting that he was dressed in winter clothing and had both his hands and feet tightly bound. Family members later confirmed the identity of the deceased.

Shakil’s elder brother, Advocate Liton Mridha, has alleged that his brother’s death was a premeditated murder, calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The officer-in-charge of Baufal Police Station, Siddekur Rahman, stated: “The body has been sent to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The incident is being investigated with utmost seriousness, and appropriate legal action will be taken.”
