An 11-year-old boy has been found dead in a paddy field in Rajshahi, prompting a murder investigation by local police. The body of Adib Ahnab was discovered on Monday morning in the Bil Dharmapur area of Paba upazila, sending shockwaves through the local community.
According to officers from Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), the child’s body was found lying amid standing paddy with a trouser belt tightly fastened around his neck, suggesting he had been strangled. The remains were recovered and transported to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College for post-mortem examination.
Adib Ahnab was a fourth-grade pupil at Bil Dharmapur Government Primary School. He was the son of Mostafizur Rahman, a resident of the same locality. Family members described him as a quiet and studious child with no known disputes or conflicts.
The boy had left home on Sunday evening to attend Tarawih prayers at a nearby mosque with his grandfather, Shamsul Huda. When he failed to return later that night, relatives began searching the surrounding areas. Despite combing neighbouring fields and roads, they found no trace of him until local farmers made the grim discovery at dawn.

Speaking to reporters, the boy’s maternal uncle, Mokhles Ali, alleged that the killing was premeditated. “My nephew has been brutally strangled to death. This was a planned murder,” he said, demanding a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
Local residents have echoed the family’s concerns, calling for swift justice and improved safety measures in the rural community. The incident has heightened anxiety among parents in the area, many of whom are reluctant to allow their children to venture out alone.
Habibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Kornahar Police Station under RMP, stated that while the initial evidence points to homicide, the precise motive remains unclear. “We have not yet identified or detained any suspects. A murder case will be filed, and the investigation is ongoing,” he confirmed.
Authorities are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the exact cause and time of death. Forensic findings are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the direction of the inquiry.
The tragic death of a young schoolboy in such circumstances has cast a pall over Bil Dharmapur. As investigators continue their work, the grieving family and community await answers — and justice.
