Brahmanbaria Debt Dispute Sparks Violent Clash

In Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria, a longstanding financial dispute escalated into a violent clash on Wednesday, leaving at least 20 people injured. Several of the wounded were admitted to Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment, highlighting the severity of the confrontation.

The incident occurred in the Shreeghar village of Burishwar Union in the early hours of 4 March. According to local sources and police reports, the clash arose from a one-year-old debt issue. Nearly a year ago, Shahjahan Mia, son of Nur Dhan Mia, borrowed 100,000 Taka from Arush Mia, another resident of Shreeghar. The failure to repay the loan on schedule led to a heated verbal exchange between the families on Tuesday, which escalated into a violent confrontation the following morning.

Both sides reportedly armed themselves with sticks, rods, and improvised weapons, and a prolonged skirmish ensued, leaving around twenty individuals injured. Police arrived at the scene and quickly brought the situation under control, preventing further escalation.

Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Islam of Nasirnagar Police Station confirmed the incident, stating, “Upon receiving reports, our team immediately responded and restored order. Several injured individuals have been admitted to the local health complex, and we are monitoring the situation closely.”

Local residents expressed shock and concern, noting that the clash not only caused injuries but also damaged nearby homes and shops. The incident has heightened tensions in the village, prompting police to maintain a visible presence to prevent further violence.
