A shocking lapse in academic integrity has surfaced in Comilla, where students at Pipulia Islamia Kamil Madrasa were recorded openly using textbooks during a Fazil (Honours) examination. The incident, which took place in the Comilla Sadar Dakshin sub-district, was captured in a 2-minute and 27-second video that has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage over the state of institutional supervision.
The footage reveals a brazen scene within the examination hall: nearly every candidate is seen with an open textbook on their desk, transcribed answers directly into their scripts under the passive gaze of invigilators. Reports indicate that the examination, held on Sunday, 21st December, involved 44 students from the first and third years. The fact that the college served as its own examination centre appears to have facilitated this systemic malpractice, with faculty members allegedly complicit in the cheating.
At the centre of the controversy is the acting Principal, Maulana Abdul Quddus. Local sources and students have alleged that a structured bribery system was in place to permit the illicit use of materials. It is claimed that the Principal extracted a total of 1,100 BDT from each student—comprising a 500 BDT “centre fee” and an additional 600 BDT specifically for the privilege of “open-book” assistance. When contacted by journalists for a statement, the Principal reportedly disconnected the call and deactivated his mobile phone upon learning the identity of the callers.
| Entity/Individual | Role | Current Action/Status |
|---|---|---|
| Maulana Abdul Quddus | Acting Principal | Accused of bribery; currently evading contact |
| Syed Md. Tayeb Hossain | Upazila Secondary Education Officer | Confirmed legal proceedings are underway |
| Sujan Chandra Roy | Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) | Formed an official probe committee |
| 44 Candidates | Honours Students | Examination results currently under scrutiny |
Government authorities have moved swiftly to address the breach of protocol. Syed Md. Tayeb Hossain, the Upazila Secondary Education Officer, stated that the matter has been brought to the department’s attention and that rigorous legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Furthermore, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Sujan Chandra Roy, confirmed that a formal probe committee was established immediately following the video’s circulation. He assured the public that as soon as the investigation report is submitted, those responsible—be they students or administrators—will face the full extent of the law. This incident has reignited debates regarding the suitability of “home centres” for national examinations, with many calling for stricter external invigilation to preserve the sanctity of the Honours degree.
