With the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in just four months, the world’s biggest sporting stage is drawing closer. Widely hailed as the “Greatest Show on Earth,” the tournament sees every participating nation preparing meticulously. Among them, South American giants Brazil are once again dreaming of claiming a historic sixth World Cup title. Since taking charge, coach Carlo Ancelotti has been reshaping the squad, bringing fresh strategies while retaining key players, and the majority of the team’s core now appears almost finalised.
At an event hosted by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) last Monday, Ancelotti revealed that while the 26-man squad will be announced in May, certain positions are still under consideration. Having assumed his role in June 2025, the Italian tactician has closely monitored player performances over the past months, ensuring several selections are already effectively guaranteed.
According to ESPN reports, Ancelotti’s squad will likely feature 11 players whose inclusion is virtually certain:
| Position | Player(s) |
|---|---|
| Goalkeeper | Alisson Becker |
| Defender | Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhães |
| Midfielder | Casemiro, Bruno Guimarães |
| Forward | Vinicius Jr, Estevão, Rafinha, Rodrygo, Matheus Cunha, Gabriel Martinelli |
The remaining 15 slots are still fiercely contested. The final squad will comprise three goalkeepers, four full-backs, five centre-backs, four to five midfielders, and nine to ten forwards.
In goal, Alisson will likely be supported by either Weverton or Hugo Souza. In defence, players such as Éder Militão, Alex Sandro, and Alexsandro are almost certain to feature, though full-back spots remain highly competitive, with Militão’s fitness playing a crucial role. Left-footed Flamengo defender Léo Pereira has also caught Ancelotti’s attention for a centre-back position.
Attack options promise to bring excitement. At the number nine position, Matheus Cunha faces competition from Gabriel Jesus, Endrick, João Pedro, and Luiz Henrique. The biggest question mark, however, remains over Neymar. The 34-year-old superstar is returning from injury rehabilitation, and Ancelotti has stated he will only be included if fully fit. Many analysts believe that Neymar’s return could significantly enhance Brazil’s prospects of clinching a sixth World Cup.
With a blend of proven talent and emerging stars, Brazil’s squad is shaping up to be a balanced, dynamic team. Ancelotti’s approach emphasises tactical flexibility and depth across every position, ensuring that the Seleção is not only prepared to compete but poised to make a historic run in pursuit of Hexa glory.
