Abul Ahsan Zabur, the elder brother of martyred journalist A.T.M. Turab—who was killed during the July Movement in the Bandar Bazar area of Sylhet—has formally resigned from his role as Joint Coordinator of the Sylhet District Coordination Committee of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP).

Zabur confirmed his resignation late on Thursday night, stating:
“Due to personal and familial responsibilities, I have been unable to dedicate adequate time to the organisation. Therefore, I have submitted my resignation letter to the district’s chief coordinator.”
Statement from the Resignation Letter
In his resignation letter, Zabur wrote:
“I, the undersigned, am a member of the National Citizens’ Party Sylhet District and Joint Coordinator of the district committee. Owing to ongoing personal and family commitments, I am unable to actively contribute to party activities. Remaining in this position no longer aligns with the current political landscape. As such, I hereby voluntarily resign from all roles within the party, with immediate organisational effect.”
NCP’s Response
When contacted about Zabur’s resignation, Nazim Uddin Shahan, the Chief Coordinator of NCP’s Sylhet District, stated around 11:00 PM on Thursday: “He has informed us verbally, but we have yet to receive any official written notice. Until we do, it cannot be formally acknowledged that he has resigned. However, we will be sitting with him soon to discuss the matter further.”
The resignation of a key district-level figure, particularly one so personally connected to the tragic events of the July Movement, has drawn attention within the political circles of Sylhet and beyond.
