Brothers Attacked in Natore Feud

A violent dispute believed to stem from longstanding enmity has left two brothers seriously injured in Bagatipara upazila of Natore district, after they were attacked in separate incidents within two days. Both victims are currently receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, according to local authorities and health officials.

The first assault occurred on Friday afternoon when Abul Khair, the imam of Tunipara Mosque in Ward No. 1 of the Bagatipara municipality, was ambushed while returning home after leading the Friday congregational prayer. Witnesses reported that several assailants suddenly attacked him with sharp weapons, inflicting severe injuries before fleeing the scene.

Local residents rushed to his aid and initially transported him to Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex. However, as his condition deteriorated rapidly, doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced medical treatment.

The following evening, the violence escalated further when Abul Khair’s younger brother, Yakub Ali, was also attacked in what appears to be a continuation of the same feud. The assault took place at around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday while Yakub Ali was travelling along a local road.

According to Yakub Ali, the attackers were armed and acted in a coordinated manner. He alleged that several individuals, including Miraj, Miraj’s son Mehedi, and a man named Saiful, were among those involved in the attack. Yakub Ali further claimed that the same group had participated in the assault on his elder brother the previous day.

As with the earlier incident, local residents rescued Yakub Ali in a critically injured state and took him to Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex. Medical staff administered initial treatment before referring him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Dr Sajibur Rahman, a medical officer at Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex, stated that Yakub Ali’s condition was serious upon arrival. “After providing emergency care, we referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment as his injuries were critical,” he said.

Police officials confirmed that they had visited the scene shortly after the attacks were reported. Monjurul Alam, the Officer-in-Charge of Bagatipara Model Police Station, said the situation in the area is currently under control.

“Police were immediately deployed to the location. The overall situation is now calm, and an investigation is underway,” he said. He added that one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the incidents, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Local residents have expressed concern about the escalating violence, urging authorities to take swift action to prevent further retaliation.
