Prominent Dhallywood actress Shabnam Bubly has publicly expressed her deep frustration over persistent online rumours and trolling surrounding her personal life, warning that she may pursue legal action if the harassment does not cease. Describing the comments and misinformation circulating on social media as not only insulting but also psychologically damaging, Bubly said she could no longer remain silent in the face of sustained personal attacks.

The controversy intensified following her visit to the United States last year with her son, Shehzad Khan Bir, and film megastar Shakib Khan. Photographs and videos from the trip quickly spread across social media platforms, fuelling speculation and intrusive commentary. After her return to Bangladesh, unfounded rumours began circulating that she was expecting another child. Although the claims were entirely false, they gained rapid traction online and prompted a wave of derogatory remarks and conjecture.

Bubly was recently confronted with questions about these rumours while attending the inauguration of a showroom in the capital. Her refusal to discuss private matters publicly appeared to further inflame online reactions, leading to intensified trolling. Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, she said that while she had ignored such behaviour for a long time, the scale and persistence of the attacks had reached an intolerable level. Several colleagues and well-wishers, she added, had urged her to consider legal remedies.

According to the actress, online abuse targeting women has reached an alarming level, with female public figures often subjected to relentless scrutiny and character assassination. She expressed particular distress at the fact that many of the defamatory comments were made by women themselves. Bubly also criticised the misuse of religious values to justify the creation and dissemination of false videos and malicious narratives, calling it a sign of moral decline. Referring to Islamic teachings, she emphasised that slander and backbiting are considered serious offences and urged social media users to act responsibly.

The rumours about her allegedly becoming a mother again reportedly originated from a viral video of her dancing at a public event. Some viewers claimed to notice physical changes, and subsequent appearances in loose-fitting outfits further fuelled speculation. Although Bubly initially chose not to respond, she has now made it clear that continued defamation would compel her to lodge a formal complaint with the cybercrime authorities.

During the same interaction, Bubly also addressed recent political discussions involving her name. She categorically denied any affiliation with political parties, stating that contributing to the country’s welfare does not require direct involvement in politics. As a conscious citizen, she said, she simply hopes for stability and a positive environment in which people can work safely and with dignity.

The episode has reignited debate within the entertainment industry about digital ethics, privacy, and accountability on social media.
