A passenger bus narrowly escaped major damage after being set on fire by miscreants in front of the Narayanganj Tax Office in Esdair, Fatulla, on Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road at around 1:45 am on Sunday. The bus driver and his helper survived the incident.
The driver, Nasir, stated that the bus (Dhaka Metro-J 11-2663) transports workers from Russel Garments in Railgate-1, Dhaka, to the Signboard area daily. On Sunday night, after dropping the workers, he and his helper Nayon fell asleep in the bus. At around 1:45 am, they woke up to see fire at the driver’s seat. Shouting for help, nearby locals quickly doused the flames with water. Later, two units of the Narayanganj Fire Service and three teams from Fatulla Model Police Station arrived at the scene.
The driver added that they did not see who started the fire as they were asleep. He moved the bus to another location after informing the police to avoid parking on the roadside.
Anwar Hossain, Inspector (Investigation) of Fatulla Model Police Station, said the fire was brought under control with the help of locals. Thanks to the alertness of the driver and his helper, the bus did not suffer major damage. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the fire.
