In a shocking incident in Bogura, notorious criminals abducted and subsequently murdered Pintu Akand, a 35-year-old owner of a local lottery showroom. The crime has sent ripples of fear across the community. Within hours of the abduction, police recovered the microbus used in the operation in Kumarpāra, Adamdighi Upazila, and discovered the victim’s body inside.

The body of Pintu Akand was retrieved in the early hours of Monday, 22 December, around 3 a.m. Akand hailed from Raninagar Upazila in Naogaon district and was a well-known figure in the regional lottery business.

According to police reports, at precisely 9:08 p.m. on Monday, a white Hiace microbus arrived outside Akand’s lottery showroom in Dupchanchia Upazila. Four masked individuals emerged from the vehicle, one of whom brandished a firearm. The assailants forcibly dragged Akand out of the showroom and compelled him into the microbus. They then fled along the Bogura–Naogaon regional highway towards Adamdighi Upazila.

CCTV footage from the scene captured the masked criminals moving swiftly with Akand, highlighting the premeditated and violent nature of the crime.

Bogura’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Atoyar Hossain, confirmed the recovery of the vehicle and stated that several individuals suspected of involvement in the crime have been apprehended. “We are conducting operations to identify and arrest the remaining suspects,” he added. However, he noted that the motive behind the abduction and murder has yet to be established.

The victim’s body has been sent to the morgue of Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, as authorities continue their investigation into this brutal and highly disturbing crime.
