In a final that failed to live up to the high-stakes drama expected of a title decider, Central Zone cruised to a comprehensive five-wicket victory over North Zone to claim their second BCL One-Day crown. Despite the historic significance of the venue, the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur remained eerily quiet, providing a stark contrast to the packed galleries recently witnessed during matches in Bogra and Rajshahi.
Chasing a modest target of 239, Central Zone’s pursuit was headlined by a commanding 144-run partnership between Mohammad Naim and Saif Hassan. Naim, who reached his half-century with a flourish, shared a light-hearted moment with his partner regarding the sparse crowd, pointing out a small but vocal pocket of supporters in the stands.
Although both batsmen fell short of centuries—Naim departing for a well-played 78 and Saif for a robust 87—their alliance had already effectively neutralised the North Zone bowling attack. Despite a minor middle-order hiccup where Central Zone lost three wickets for just 25 runs, the result was never in doubt. The winning runs came in the 39th over via a wide ball, sealing the championship with 12 overs to spare.
Earlier in the day, North Zone, missing the prolific Litton Das due to illness, struggled to find momentum after being put in to bat. The sole resistance came from Tawhid Hridoy, who played a valiant knock of 96 off 98 balls. Falling agonisingly short of a century, Hridoy was the last man dismissed with only three balls remaining in the innings. His solitary efforts, which included eight boundaries and a six, were undermined by a lack of support from the other end. For Central Zone, young pacer Ripon Mondol was the pick of the bowlers, returning impressive figures of 4 for 41.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) utilised this 50-over tournament as a vital dress rehearsal for the national team’s upcoming international calendar. With Bangladesh scheduled to play 22 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) this year, the primary objective is to maintain a top-nine ranking to ensure direct qualification for the World Cup.
The journey begins on 11 March with a three-match home series against Pakistan. By hosting the BCL final as a day-night encounter in Mirpur, the board intended to offer local players the necessary experience under lights. While the final itself was one-sided, the tournament has provided much-needed match practice for the core group of players heading into a rigorous international season.
