Chanchal Regrets Missing Film with Dev

Acclaimed actor Chanchal Chowdhury, who has been working consistently across Dhaka and Kolkata, has expressed regret over not being able to collaborate with actor and producer Dev despite receiving multiple offers. The revelation came during a recent video interview with the leading West Bengal daily Anandabazar Patrika.

Chowdhury, widely regarded for his versatility and nuanced character portrayals, recently completed filming for Shekor, directed by prominent theatre personality and filmmaker Bratya Basu. The project marks another significant cross-border collaboration in his career. At the same time, his film Bonolota Express, directed by Tanim Noor, is awaiting release during Eid al-Fitr. He is also set to appear in Shasti, directed by Leesa Gazi, which is currently in production.

In the interview, Chowdhury reflected on his professional experiences in West Bengal, noting that he had previously worked with distinguished filmmakers such as Goutam Ghose and Srijit Mukherji. He emphasised that each director possesses a distinct creative philosophy and working methodology. Rather than comparing them, he underscored the importance of mutual respect and artistic integrity in collaborative ventures.

The most notable aspect of the discussion concerned his unfulfilled collaboration with Dev. Chowdhury disclosed that he had received two separate proposals to work with Dev. One involved an earlier film project that did not materialise, while the second related to a proposed film titled Khadan. However, due to scheduling conflicts arising from prior professional commitments, he was unable to accept either opportunity.

He candidly acknowledged that Dev may have felt some disappointment over the cancellations. Nevertheless, Chowdhury stressed that their personal rapport remains intact. The two have met on various occasions at international film festivals and industry gatherings, maintaining cordial relations. During a recent meeting, Chowdhury assured Dev of his firm intention to collaborate in the future.

A summary of Chowdhury’s recent and prospective projects is presented below:

Film Title Director Current Status
Shekor Bratya Basu Filming completed
Bonolota Express Tanim Noor Awaiting Eid al-Fitr release
Shasti Leesa Gazi In production
New Project Suman Mukhopadhyay Under discussion
Khadan Dev Did not proceed due to scheduling

Through sustained engagement with filmmakers from both Bangladesh and India, Chowdhury continues to function as a cultural bridge between the two Bengali-speaking regions. He maintains that artistic expression transcends geographical boundaries, and that collaborative cinema remains one of the most effective means of fostering shared cultural understanding.

His anticipated future collaboration with Dev is therefore seen not merely as a professional milestone, but as a symbolic affirmation of creative unity across borders.
