Chattogram SP Injured, Airlifted Dhaka

The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chattogram district, Mohammad Nazrul Islam Khan, sustained a serious leg injury after slipping in the bathroom of his official residence on Monday morning (30 March). The incident occurred at the SP bungalow located in the CRB area of Chattogram.

According to police officials, the senior officer slipped on a wet surface while using the washroom, causing a severe fracture to his left leg. He was immediately rescued by staff members stationed at the residence and rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment.

Medical personnel at the hospital conducted initial examinations and confirmed that the fracture was significant, requiring advanced orthopaedic intervention. Given the complexity of the injury, attending doctors advised that the SP be transferred to a specialised facility in Dhaka for further management.

Following medical advice, arrangements were swiftly made to move him to the capital. He was first transported to Shah Amanat International Airport, from where he was airlifted by helicopter to Dhaka in the afternoon.

Upon arrival, he was admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), a leading specialist centre for bone and musculoskeletal injuries. Hospital sources stated that although his condition is stable, the severity of the fracture may require prolonged treatment and possibly surgical intervention depending on further assessments.

Chattogram’s Additional Deputy Inspector General (Crime and Operations), Sirajul Islam, confirmed the incident and described the sequence of events, noting that immediate steps were taken to ensure the officer received appropriate medical attention without delay.

Timeline of Events

Timeframe Development
Morning SP slipped in bathroom at official residence
Shortly after Rescued by staff and taken to CMCH
Late morning Initial diagnosis confirms serious left leg fracture
Noon Decision taken to transfer to Dhaka for advanced care
Afternoon Airlifted by helicopter via Shah Amanat Airport
Later Admitted to NITOR in Dhaka

Medical experts note that fractures of this nature typically require careful orthopaedic management, which may include surgery, immobilisation, and a structured rehabilitation programme. Recovery time can vary depending on the extent of the fracture, the patient’s overall health, and response to treatment.

Authorities have ensured enhanced coordination between law enforcement and medical teams to facilitate uninterrupted care. Senior police officials are also closely monitoring his condition and overseeing all logistical and medical arrangements.

At present, the SP remains under specialist observation at NITOR, where a detailed treatment plan is expected to be finalised following further diagnostic evaluation.
