Cheating and Exam Leaks Will Not Return: Minister

The newly appointed Education Minister, A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan, has emphatically stated that cheating and question-paper leaks in educational institutions will not be tolerated under his tenure. He assured that strict monitoring and effective measures will be implemented to maintain discipline in schools, colleges, and universities.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday (18 February) at the Ministry of Education headquarters, Milan reflected on past efforts during his previous tenure, noting that significant steps had been taken to curb academic malpractice. “We acted decisively to stop cheating and the circulation of exam papers then, and the same vigilance will continue now,” he said.

Modernisation and Curriculum Reform

Minister Milan outlined plans for a comprehensive reform of the education system to make it contemporary and globally competitive. Key initiatives include curriculum review, enhancement of digital literacy and English proficiency, and the introduction of courses aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as nanotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics.

Addressing students directly, Milan remarked, “We cannot advance with an outdated education system. The world is now a global village. Our education must meet international standards, embracing digital platforms, technology-driven skills, and modern knowledge-based curricula.”

Tackling Corruption and Irregularities

When questioned about corruption allegations within the education sector, the minister stated that accountability would focus on the present and future, rather than past actions. “No corruption has occurred during my tenure, and I intend to ensure none will. Investigations into irregularities related to MPO (Monthly Pay Order) enrolment and institutional affiliations will be conducted, with updates provided in due course,” he explained.

Regarding the long-standing issue of low salaries and limited benefits for private-sector teachers, Milan confirmed that the government was aware of the matter and promised that decisions would be communicated in due time.

The press conference was also attended by State Minister for Education, Bobi Hajjaj.
