‘Chhatra Dal Threatens to Expel Salahuddin Quickly’

In a bold warning, Senior Vice President of the Rajshahi University branch of Chhatra Dal, Shakilur Rahman Sohag, claimed on Monday that the student organisation could remove Salahuddin Ammar, General Secretary of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), from the campus within just thirty minutes. The statement was made during a welcome rally and subsequent assembly at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial Square, organised to celebrate the return of BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, to Bangladesh.

A video clip of Sohag’s statement rapidly circulated on social media, triggering widespread discussion. Sohag accused certain RUCSU leaders of creating instability on campus by locking various dean offices, as well as the offices of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Proctor, saying:

“We issued a statement condemning these acts to maintain a healthy campus environment. Ordinary students welcomed our protest. Yet some RUCSU leaders have spoken against it.”

Directing his remarks at Salahuddin Ammar, Sohag asserted:
“Do not align yourself with Chhatra Dal. You do not need the whole of Rajshahi—just the Rajshahi University Chhatra Dal can expel a footage-seeker like Salahuddin Ammar in merely thirty minutes.”

In response, Salahuddin Ammar posted on his personal Facebook account, rejecting the threat and emphasising his long-standing presence on campus:
“I will not become a burden on this campus, having been here from 2007 to 2025 like many others. I will stay meaningfully if I remain at all. I will oppose the Awami fascists—come if you dare.”

The rally on Monday afternoon began at around 1:30 pm from the Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial Square, with participants marching along key campus roads before gathering at the same location for a short assembly. Chhatra Dal supporters chanted slogans including:

“Ma, Mati, Dakche; Tarique Rahman Ashchhe” (Mother, land is calling; Tarique Rahman is coming)

“Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh”

“Tarique Rahman is fearless; we will not leave the streets”

During the assembly, Chhatra Dal President Sultan Ahmed Rahi remarked that despite conspiracies in the air over Bangladesh, the nation’s people are empowering Tarique Rahman’s return after eighteen years. He emphasised that BNP leaders and activists would counter any attempts to destabilise the country following 25 December, working to safeguard public welfare and security.
