The Rajshahi University branch of the Bangladesh Nationalist Students’ Party (BNSP) has announced plans to submit a memorandum and hold a human chain, demanding a formal evaluation of the mental health and necessary psychological treatment for Saluddin Ammar, the General Secretary (GS) of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU).
In a press release issued on Sunday night (19 January), signed by the branch’s Deputy Secretary, Siam Bin Aiyub, the student organisation outlined the purpose and schedule of the planned activities.
The statement emphasised that, “In light of recent incidents on campus involving misconduct and provocative situations, it is imperative to safeguard the university’s educational and peaceful environment. The mental health condition of RUCSU GS Saluddin Ammar should be assessed, and appropriate psychosocial support ensured. To this end, the Rajshahi University branch of the Students’ Party will submit a memorandum to the esteemed Vice-Chancellor of the university.”
The press release also confirmed that a human chain will accompany the memorandum submission to underscore the seriousness of the demand. The programme is scheduled for Monday, 20 January, at 1:00 pm, and all student leaders and activists from each hall and faculty are urged to attend.
Sultan Ahmed Rahi, President of the Rajshahi University BNSP branch, along with General Secretary Sardar Zahurul Islam, made a public appeal to ensure maximum participation, highlighting the importance of maintaining discipline and harmony on campus while supporting the well-being of student representatives.
