Chinese Man Marries Bangladeshi Girl in Madaripur After TikTok Romance

A young man from Shanghai, China, Sitian Jing (26), travelled all the way to Madaripur, Bangladesh, driven by love. His journey was inspired by his relationship with Sumaiya Akter (19), whom he met online. The couple tied the knot shortly after his arrival, and their story has since captivated the local community

From TikTok to Marriage

The story began on TikTok, where Sumaiya, an eleventh-grade student at Sufia Government Women’s College, first noticed Sitian. He runs a restaurant business in Shanghai, and their interaction deepened through further communication on YouTube and other platforms.

Sumaiya shared:
“I became a fan of his on TikTok. We started chatting on YouTube, and over time, we fell in love.”

After four months of virtual courtship, Sitian arrived in Bangladesh on 24 July, reached Sumaiya’s home in Madaripur on 26 July, and the couple married on 27 July.

Though language is a barrier, the couple is communicating using mobile phone translation apps. Sitian expressed his fondness for Bangladesh but admitted to being overwhelmed by the heat and curious crowds:

Sitian said:
“I like Bangladesh, but it’s very hot. Many people come to see me—it’s a bit scary. But I’ve come here out of love. We will prepare her documents and go to China together.”

According to Sumaiya, Sitian’s parents, who are Muslim, have also welcomed her and have encouraged their son to bring his wife to China.

Family and Community Reactions

Sumaiya’s father, Saidul Munshi, expressed his joy:

“My daughter fell in love with Sitian through mobile chat. He came all the way to marry her. He’s polite and well-behaved. We’re very happy.”

The unusual love story has stirred much excitement in the local area, drawing crowds of curious neighbours.

Neighbour Ashik Goura shared:
“A man from China marrying our neighbour is something special. We’re happy for them.”

Neighbour Julekha Begum added:
“He can’t speak Bangla, but smiles and tries to talk with us. He seems like a good person.”

Even children were amused by the cross-cultural union. Young Hasan joked:

“This house is now a little China!”

Official Remarks

Ward councillor Rubel Hawlader of Panchkhola Union’s Ward 7 confirmed:

“They first had a court marriage, then a traditional ceremony. I’ve heard Sitian has a business in China and plans to take Sumaiya there soon.”

This heartwarming union between two people from vastly different cultures has become the talk of Madaripur. Many are calling it a powerful testament to the strength of love, proving that in the digital age, even a TikTok video can lead to a lifelong bond.
