The intense cold has exacerbated difficulties for the local population, particularly rickshaw pullers, low-income earners, and pedestrians, who face challenges commuting and carrying out routine activities. Health facilities have reported an increase in patients suffering from cold-related illnesses, including respiratory infections and diarrhoea. Vulnerable groups such as elderly citizens and children are at heightened risk, with cases of pneumonia becoming increasingly common.
Local inhabitants noted that the cold has made daily chores more burdensome. Many families struggle to keep warm, while those working outdoors are especially exposed to the elements.
Since early Wednesday morning, Chuadanga has been shrouded in dense fog, reducing visibility to just 200 metres. As a result, vehicles on the roads have been forced to use headlights even during daytime hours. By 11 a.m., the sun had yet to break through, further hampering visibility and daily commuting.
Authorities have issued warnings to drivers and pedestrians alike, urging caution on fog-affected roads to prevent accidents.
Jaminur Rahman, the acting officer at Chuadanga Weather Office, confirmed that the lowest temperature of 10.5°C was recorded at 9 a.m., with humidity levels reaching 97%, intensifying the cold’s impact. He emphasised the need for residents to take precautions, particularly for children and older adults, to reduce the risk of cold-related health issues.
Medical experts recommend warm clothing, nutritious meals, adequate sleep, and proper care for vulnerable groups. Frequent handwashing and consuming warm beverages are also advised to prevent respiratory infections and other illnesses associated with low temperatures. Local health authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide guidance to residents.
