Clash Over Two Factions Of BNP Over Internal Dominance Leaves 15 Injured At Sunamganj

In Bishwambharpur Upazila of Sunamganj, a violent clash erupted on Tuesday evening between two factions of the same political party over internal dominance, leaving at least fifteen people injured. The confrontation took place at Katakhali Bazaar at approximately 8:30 pm on 11 January, drawing significant local attention due to its intensity and impact.

Local sources indicate that the clash stemmed from a long-standing rivalry between supporters of BNP leaders Ramiz Uddin Master and Pavel Ahmed. During the incident, multiple individuals from both sides sustained injuries, and parts of a local BNP office were reportedly vandalised. Ramiz Uddin Master alleged that “agents loyal to the Awami League” had infiltrated the BNP and initiated the attack. He also claimed to have been injured during the confrontation. Conversely, Pavel Ahmed asserted that their meeting at the Katakhali Bazaar BNP office had official police approval and that the attack was orchestrated by Ramiz Uddin Master’s supporters.

The Officer-in-Charge of Bishwambharpur Police Station, Mohammad Zahidul Islam, clarified that the clash was not politically motivated but rather a consequence of internal factional disputes. “Tensions had escalated over local market-related issues, which ultimately triggered the confrontation,” he stated. He added that approximately seven to eight people were injured in total. Authorities have since restored order, and the area is now under police supervision, with calm prevailing.
