A tragic road accident in Borhanuddin Upazila, Bhola, has claimed the life of a CNG driver and left five passengers seriously injured, casting a sombre shadow over the community just days before Eid al-Fitr.

The collision occurred on Thursday afternoon, 19 March 2026, at Lebukata on the Bhola–Char Fasson highway, when a CNG carrying five passengers collided head-on with an oncoming pickup van.

The deceased has been identified as Salauddin Mia, 41, a resident of Ward 3, Uttar Dighaldi Union, Bhola Sadar Upazila, and the son of Yunus Mia. Salauddin, a father of four, was a professional CNG driver known in the local community for his dedication and hardworking nature.

According to eyewitnesses and police reports, the CNG was en route from Char Fasson to Bhola city when it met the pickup van at Lebukata. The force of the collision critically injured all six occupants of the CNG. Local residents acted swiftly to rescue the victims and rushed them to Bhola Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced Salauddin dead on arrival. The five injured passengers remain under medical care, with their conditions described as serious but stable.

The accident has left Salauddin’s family and neighbours in deep grief. His mother, overwhelmed by the loss of her only son, reportedly fainted multiple times following the tragedy, while the community mourns the untimely death of a family man during the festive pre-Eid period.

Borhanuddin Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Moniruzzaman, confirmed that the police responded promptly to the scene, provided first aid support, and transported the injured to the hospital. However, the pickup driver fled the scene and has yet to be apprehended. Legal proceedings are underway, and authorities have pledged a thorough investigation into the accident.

The incident underscores growing concerns about road safety in the region, particularly during the high-traffic period leading up to Eid. Authorities have urged drivers and passengers to exercise heightened caution on highways and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
