In a startling incident late on Monday evening, the main gate of Gopalganj Science and Technology University became the scene of a cocktail bomb explosion, sending shockwaves of fear through students and staff. The event occurred at approximately 9:45 pm, according to eyewitness reports from the university campus.
Students present at the time reported that four individuals, riding on two motorcycles, approached the main entrance and hurled improvised cocktail bombs towards the gate. Following the attack, the assailants quickly fled the scene towards the city, leaving behind a cloud of smoke and a cacophony of explosive noise that startled the entire campus.
The explosion, while alarming, did not result in any casualties or physical damage, though the university gate area was left shrouded in smoke. University authorities, led by Proctor Dr Arifuzzaman Rajib, were quick to respond, arriving at the scene alongside senior police officials to assess the situation and ensure student safety.
Dr Rajib expressed concern that the incident appeared to be a deliberate attempt by miscreants to create panic among students. “Our priority is the safety and security of our students. We are working closely with law enforcement to identify the perpetrators,” he stated.
A police communiqué issued at 12:05 am confirmed that both police and military personnel promptly arrived at the scene. According to the release, the law enforcement authorities are closely examining CCTV footage from the university premises to identify those responsible. Further legal actions and investigations are currently underway.
