Cocktail Explosion at Businessman’s House Following Police Complaint

A day after filing a complaint with the police over an extortion threat, a cocktail bomb explosion occurred at the house of a businessman named Asadul Khondokar in Narail Sadar upazila. Although no casualties were reported, the businessman’s family is now living in fear for their safety.

The incident took place around 8 p.m. on Wednesday (October 29) at the businessman’s house in Agdia village under Narail Sadar upazila. Narail Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Jamil Kabir confirmed the explosion.

According to the victim’s family and police sources, around 9 p.m. on October 27, an unknown caller demanded Tk 600,000 from businessman Asadul over the phone. About an hour later, the same caller phoned again, threatening to bomb his house if the money was not paid. The next day (October 28), the victim filed a complaint at the Sadar Police Station.

On the following day, Wednesday (October 29), after the explosion, the extortionists called Asadul again to confirm that they had carried out their threat. In the recorded call, one of the perpetrators was heard saying, Asadul, you told us to do what we could. Now do you see what we can do? Do whatever you want with the phone number.

Victim Asadul Khondokar said, “They threatened me twice over the phone, giving information about my children and demanding Tk 600,000. They also warned that they would bomb my house if I didn’t pay. On Tuesday (October 28), I went to the Sadar Police Station to file a general diary (GD) with their phone numbers, but when I couldn’t, I filed a written complaint instead. Even after that, the police didn’t check on me, but the criminals still managed to bomb my house.”

Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajedul Islam said, An investigation is underway to identify those responsible, and necessary legal action will be taken.
