A Dhaka court today ordered the confiscation of properties belonging to cricketer and former Awami League MP Shakib Al Hasan in connection with a cheque dishonour case.
The directive was issued by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziaudur Rahman following a petition filed by the plaintiff, Shahibur Rahman, a relationship officer at IFIC Bank.
According to case documents, Agro Farm – a company owned by Shakib – had borrowed funds from the bank’s Banani branch for business purposes. The company later issued two cheques totaling Tk 4.14 crore, both of which were dishonoured due to insufficient funds.
In December last year, the court summoned Shakib to appear on January 19. After he failed to comply, the court issued an arrest warrant on that date. With no response from the accused, the court has now moved to seize his assets.
Shakib, one of Bangladesh’s most high-profile cricketers, has not yet publicly responded to the legal developments.
