Cox’s Bazar Express Coach Detaches Mid-Journey, Halts Train Services

A coach of the Cox’s Bazar Express train detached mid-journey on Saturday afternoon, resulting in major disruptions in train services at Chattogram Railway Station. The incident led to the delay of the Parabat Express and halted train movement between Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Dhaka.

Incident Summary

Event Details
Date & Time Saturday, 26 July, around 3:00 PM
Location Near Gomdondi Station, Boalkhali Upazila, Chattogram
Train Involved Cox’s Bazar Express (Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka)
Cause The coupling hook of the guard brake coach broke, detaching the coach
Casualties None reported
Consequences Suspension of train services to/from Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Dhaka

The guard brake coach typically contains the guard’s compartment and onboard catering supplies. The train had departed from Cox’s Bazar Station at 12:30 PM and was en route to Chattogram before continuing onward to Dhaka. However, the incident near Gomdondi caused a delay of about 30 minutes.

After the separation, the rest of the Cox’s Bazar Express train resumed its journey to Chattogram, leaving the detached coach behind.

Impact on Other Services

Due to the stranded coach:

  • The Parabat Express, scheduled to depart Chattogram for Cox’s Bazar at 3:00 PM, could not leave the station.
  • As of 4:00 PM, the train was still stuck at Chattogram Railway Station.

Gomdondi Station Master Mohammad Tarek confirmed:

“The hook of the last coach broke just after the train passed Gomdondi Station. The train had to stop for about 30 minutes and later resumed its journey without the detached coach.”

Chattogram Station Master Abu Zafar Majumdar added:

“Until the detached coach is cleared by the rescue train, the Parabat Express cannot proceed. Normal train operations will resume once the track is cleared.”

Railway authorities are currently working to remove the stranded coach and restore services.
