Death Toll from Russian Attack in Kyiv Rises to 26

The death toll from the latest Russian missile and drone strikes in Kyiv has risen to 26, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs. Among the deceased are at least three children, underscoring the severity of the assault.

Casualties and Victims

Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs initially reported 16 deaths, including two children, in a Telegram post. However, rescue workers later recovered 10 additional bodies from a residential building in the Svyatoshynskyi district of the capital, including a two-year-old child, raising the confirmed death toll to 26.

The attack, which took place on Thursday, left 159 people injured, among them 16 children, the ministry confirmed.

Other Incidents

On Friday morning, another Russian strike in the Zaporizhzhia region, located in southeastern Ukraine, resulted in the death of one individual, according to the local military administration.

National Mourning and International Response

Ukraine declared a national day of mourning on Friday in remembrance of the victims of Thursday’s deadly attack. This assault is considered one of the deadliest in Kyiv since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

In a swift response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed his call for Western allies to initiate efforts for regime change in Russia.

Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump condemned the Russian actions, stating:

“Russia—what they are doing, in my opinion, is deplorable. I believe it’s deeply condemnable.”

Trump further announced that new economic sanctions would be imposed against Moscow.
