Demolishing Shrines and Burning Bodies Is Not the Teaching of the Prophet: Rizvi

BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has stated that the practice of demolishing shrines or burning bodies does not reflect the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). He made the remarks on Saturday, 6 September, during a Milad and prayer gathering held at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, marking the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).

Rizvi’s Remarks

Rizvi highlighted that:

  • “Today we speak about democracy and state consciousness, yet the greatest man in the history of mankind, the Prophet of Arabia, stands as a guiding example for us. Unfortunately, we fail to embrace his teachings, and instead, divide ourselves and Islam into sects, divisions, and conflicting interpretations. Yet, our Prophet was the true symbol of unity.”
  • He further emphasised, “It is extremely difficult, indeed impossible, for someone like me to fully describe the greatness of the Prophet in whose honour today’s Milad and discussion have been organised. He spread the divine message he received from Allah to humanity, leaving behind an unmatched standard of life.”
  • Rizvi added that the Prophet’s personality and moral attributes should serve as timeless examples to be followed. “Had we even minimally imitated and nurtured these values, wrongdoing, crime, corruption, immorality, hostility, and bloodshed would have ended in this country long ago.”
  • He concluded by lamenting, “The one who is our true model, the embodiment of ideals, we fail to follow him and imitate him. And this is the greatest failure of today’s Muslim society.”
