Dhaka and its surrounding areas have been shrouded in dense fog since early morning, creating a scene reminiscent of a persistent drizzle. The wintry conditions have disrupted daily life, with commuters and pedestrians navigating through limited visibility and chilly air. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the sky is expected to remain temporarily cloudy, while daytime temperatures are likely to remain relatively stable.
The BMD issued a forecast on Tuesday (30 December) covering the six-hour period from 7:00 am, indicating that while the weather is expected to remain mostly dry, light to moderate fog may persist. The foggy conditions are likely to sustain the feeling of cold across Dhaka and neighbouring districts. Winds are forecasted to blow from the north or northwest at a speed of 6–12 kilometres per hour, contributing to the wintery chill.
Early morning observations recorded at 6:00 am showed the temperature in Dhaka and its vicinity at 14°C, with humidity levels reaching 93 per cent. Comparatively, Monday (29 December) saw a maximum temperature of 15.5°C. Tuesday’s minimum temperature dropped slightly to 13.9°C. Residents can expect sunset at 5:22 pm today, marking another short winter day.
The persistent fog has also affected visibility on roads and in residential areas, prompting authorities to advise caution while driving. Meteorologists suggest that the cold spell may continue over the next few days, with temperatures likely hovering around similar ranges, reinforcing the need for warm clothing and careful commuting.
