Dismembered Body Found in Drum Near High Court: Victim’s Friend Named as Chief Accused

A murder case has been filed in connection with the recovery of a dismembered body from a drum found near the National Eidgah field gate adjacent to the High Court in the capital. The victim’s sister, Anjina Begum, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on Friday morning (November 14), naming Jorej, a friend of the deceased, as the prime accused.

Several other unnamed individuals have also been implicated in the case.

Victim Identified The body, chopped into 26 pieces, was found inside a blue plastic drum on Thursday evening. Though the identity of the deceased was not immediately known, police later confirmed it through a fingerprint match. The victim was identified as Md. Ashraful Haque (42), a businessman whose ancestral home was in Gopalpara, Badarganj, Rangpur. His father’s name is Md. Abdur Rashid and his mother’s name is Mosammat Eshra Khatun.

Case Details Shahbagh Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Monsur confirmed the information, stating that a murder case was filed this morning by the victim’s sister, Anjina Begum. The victim’s friend, Jorej Mia, has been made the primary accused, along with several other unknown persons.

The OC noted that no arrests have been made yet, stating, “We have not been able to arrest anyone involved yet. Work is underway to quickly identify those involved by analyzing CCTV footage and other information.”

Business Background Regarding the victim, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Ramna Division, Masud Alam, told reporters on Thursday that Ashraful Haque, who had an official license to import onions and potatoes from India and Myanmar, came to Dhaka from his home on Tuesday. He last spoke with his family members around 9 PM on Wednesday, after which all communication ceased.
