Railway police recovered the dismembered body of an expatriate youth, Gani Mia (30), from the side of the rail line at Ghorashal Tank Station in Polash, Narsingdi, on the morning of Saturday, 27 September, a day after he was reported missing. The body was found with the throat and hands severed, the family and officials said.
Victim and Family Background
Gani’s relatives said he left the house late on Friday night and was reported missing after the family could not trace him. A general diary (GD) was lodged at Polash Police Station that night. The following morning, family members were alerted to a body found beside the railway line at Ghorashal Tank Station and subsequently identified it as Gani.
How the Case Unfolded (Timeline)
| Time / Day | Event |
| Friday evening | Family lose contact with Gani after he leaves the house; phone shows last activity between 7:30 pm and 10:30 pm (phone briefly reopened at c.10:30 pm, then shut down; again opened ~05:00 am next day). |
| Friday night | Family report Gani missing and file a GD at Polash police station. |
| Saturday morning (27 Sept) | Railway police recover the body from beside the tracks at Ghorashal Tank Station; family identify the deceased as Gani. |
| After recovery | Body sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. |
Gani’s elder brother, Monir Hossain, told reporters that the family was first informed at around 9:45 pm on Friday that Gani had not returned home. They searched the neighbourhood and notified the local Ghorashal outpost. Unable to find him, they filed the GD at Polash station later that night.
Monir said the family received word early on Saturday that a young man’s body had been seen beside the railway line; on arrival they discovered it was Gani, with his throat and hands cut. He insisted his brother had been murdered in a premeditated manner and demanded justice.
Monir described the pattern of phone activity overnight — the device was inactive from about 7:30 pm on Friday, was briefly turned on at about 10:30 pm, then again at about 5:00 am on Saturday — and said the family believed the sequence pointed to a planned killing.
“We searched everywhere last night and involved the Ghorashal police outpost too. When we could not find him we filed the GD at Polash. This morning we were told a body was by the station. We came and found Gani — his throat and hands were severed. My brother has been murdered deliberately. We want justice.” — Monir Hossain (elder brother)
Inspector Nazimuddin of Narsingdi Railway Police confirmed the recovery of the body and said it had been taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue. He stated that a post‑mortem examination will determine whether the death was a homicide or suicide. Legal procedures and investigative steps are underway.
Authorities have launched an inquiry and are collecting evidence at the scene. The outcome of the autopsy and forensic examinations will guide the classification of the case and any subsequent criminal proceedings.
