The Forensic DNA Laboratory of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has successfully identified the identities of five severely disfigured bodies recovered from the site of a recent plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka.
On Thursday, 24 July, Special Superintendent of Police (CID), Jasim Uddin Khan, confirmed that forensic experts had matched DNA samples collected from the victims’ remains with those provided by their families.
“We had collected a total of 11 DNA samples from the deceased over the past two days. Based on these, the identities of five individuals have been confirmed,”

He added that further details would be made available in due course.
| Source of Samples | Quantity Collected | Notes |
| Deceased (bodies/remains) | 11 DNA samples | Collected from five bodies at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) |
| Claimants (family members) | 11 blood samples | Donated at CID Headquarters, Malibagh |
According to Shompa Yasmin, Special Superintendent of CID’s Forensic Division, 11 family members — including multiple relatives from some families — came forward voluntarily to provide blood samples for comparison. These efforts enabled CID to successfully match DNA profiles and verify the victims’ identities despite the extreme conditions of the remains.
The government has urged families of those still missing in the crash to assist in the identification process by submitting DNA samples. In an official statement issued on Wednesday, authorities requested relatives to visit the CID office in Malibagh to provide necessary samples for analysis.
“We request cooperation from the families of the missing in helping identify the deceased through DNA,”
