DNC’s Raid Uncovers Yaba Hidden in Doctor’s Drawer

An MBBS doctor and his accomplice have been arrested by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) for hiding yaba in a drawer at a residence in the Bashila Garden area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

The arrested individuals are Dr. Nafis Sadiq, an MBBS doctor, and Mohammad Sazahan, a leading drug dealer from Geneva Camp.

On Tuesday (18th November), during a press briefing at the DC’s headquarters in Segunbagicha, the Director-General of the Department of Narcotics Control, Mohammad Hasan Maruf, provided these details.

He explained that based on secret information, on 11th November, a special raiding team, under the leadership of Inspector Abdullah Al Mamun and the guidance of Deputy Director Shamim Ahmed from the DNC’s Dhaka Metro (North) office, conducted a raid at the Shanta Tower in Bashila Garden City.

During the raid, Dr. Nafis Sadiq and Mohammad Sazahan were apprehended from a room.

The DNC Director-General stated that during interrogation, Dr. Nafis initially denied the allegations but later opened his study desk drawer himself, revealing 50 yaba tablets. A further search of his accomplice led to the discovery of another 1,000 yaba tablets.

The DNC’s Director-General added that investigations are ongoing into whether Dr. Nafis Sadiq had been involved in drug trafficking while carrying out his duties at the hospital and simultaneously operating from his personal flat.

The investigation is also seeking to determine how long Dr. Nafis Sadiq had been involved in such activities. A case has been filed under the relevant laws, confirmed the DNCC Director-General, Mohammad Hasan Maruf.
