The nation is holding its breath as new medical details emerge regarding Osman Hadi, the convenor of Inqilab Manch and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, who remains in a critical condition following a targeted shooting. After undergoing a fresh CT scan on Sunday morning, doctors have confirmed that the damage to his brain is both severe and life-threatening.
Osman Hadi was rushed to Evercare Hospital in the capital after being shot by unidentified attackers at extremely close range. Since then, he has been kept on full life support, with a specialist medical team monitoring his condition around the clock. The latest CT scan has painted a grim picture, reinforcing fears that his recovery, if any, will be long and uncertain.
Dr Abdul Ahad, a neurosurgeon from Dhaka Medical College and a key member of the surgical team overseeing Hadi’s treatment, addressed the media on Sunday afternoon. According to him, the scan revealed extensive brain damage caused by the bullet’s trajectory. The projectile penetrated the temporal barrier of the brain, narrowly missing some of the most vital blood vessels.
“The situation remains extremely critical,” Dr Ahad stated. “This was not a random shot. It was fired with precision, from close range, by someone who knew exactly where to aim.”
Doctors were initially alarmed when Hadi’s kidneys showed signs of failure, compounding concerns about multiple organ damage. Although kidney function has since partially returned, the neurological injuries remain the primary concern. Blood clots have formed inside the brain, and oxygen deprivation has further complicated the damage.
Despite emergency surgery, doctors were unable to remove all fragments of the bullet. Tiny splinters remain lodged in the brain tissue, making further intervention risky. The lungs, meanwhile, remain dependent on life-support systems, showing no independent improvement.
Medical experts describe Hadi’s condition as a delicate balancing act, where even minor changes could have devastating consequences. He is currently under intensive observation, and doctors are limiting movement to avoid worsening the injuries.
As the medical team continues its efforts, Hadi’s family is grappling with painful decisions. They have expressed interest in transferring him abroad for advanced treatment. Doctors confirmed that medical case summaries have already been sent to foreign hospitals, allowing international specialists to assess whether relocation is feasible.
However, physicians caution that moving him in his current condition carries serious risks. Any final decision will depend on recommendations from a medical board and the family’s consent.
The shocking attack and subsequent medical revelations have sparked widespread concern and emotional reactions, particularly among supporters and colleagues. As the hours pass, the nation watches anxiously, hoping for a miracle in a case that has already left an indelible mark on public consciousness.
