The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) has issued a stern ultimatum demanding the resignation of the Home, Law, and Foreign Affairs Advisers unless the government demonstrates visible improvement in law and order and secures the return of key fugitives, including the high-profile case of Hasina and other murder convicts. The statement was delivered by DUCSU’s Literature and Cultural Secretary, Musaddiq Ali Ibn Mohammad, on Thursday, 18 December.
In his statement, Musaddiq Ali emphasised that DUCSU had initially demanded that all ruling party-associated terrorists be arrested within 48 hours and that a nationwide operation be launched to confiscate illegal firearms. While he acknowledged the ongoing “Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2” as somewhat satisfactory—with 4,360 arrests across the country in the past three days—he warned that the operation must not target innocent citizens, and only actual terrorists and criminals should be apprehended.
Despite these efforts, he argued that many high-profile ruling party-affiliated criminals remain at large. He placed full responsibility on Home Adviser Jahangir Alam for any future crimes committed by these individuals, including clandestine killings, militant rallies, or arson attacks.
Musaddiq Ali also criticised the legal system, noting that despite the police working diligently to apprehend criminals, influential political figures and financial transactions often secure their bail. He cautioned that if continuous bail is granted to arrested criminals, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul would bear complete responsibility.
Addressing the Osman Hadi case, he said that although accomplices of the primary accused had been arrested, no visible effort had been made to apprehend the main shooter, Faisal. Furthermore, no effective measures had been taken to repatriate other killers, including Hasina, to Bangladesh.
Regarding the Foreign Affairs Adviser, Musaddiq Ali noted that recent statements appeared strong, but without concrete initiatives to return fugitives, such words were meaningless. He urged the adviser to take effective steps to bring back Hasina and other convicted killers and, if necessary, pursue diplomatic measures against foreign governments, such as India, should they refuse cooperation.
He concluded that unless visible improvements in law and order are achieved and fugitives are repatriated promptly, DUCSU will mobilise a nationwide student movement demanding the resignation of the Home, Law, and Foreign Affairs Advisers.
