Eight Injured in Chhatra Dal Clash at Titumir College

At least eight students were injured today in a violent clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra Dal at Titumir Government College in Dhaka.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the Shahid Mamun Hall of the college campus. According to college sources, the confrontation erupted over internal dominance, involving two factions known locally as the ‘Molla’ and ‘Joltorongo’ groups.

Eyewitnesses reported extensive damage inside Shahid Mamun Hall, with windows shattered, doors broken, and furniture vandalised during the altercation.

Speaking to The Daily Star, AL Amin Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the incident and said:

“We have deployed additional police personnel on campus to maintain law and order.”

Following the clash, efforts by senior Chhatra Dal leaders successfully de-escalated tensions on campus. Imam Hossain, convener of the Titumir College unit of Chhatra Dal, stated:

“The dispute has been resolved through the intervention of central leaders. Organisational measures have been initiated in response to this incident.”

As part of disciplinary action, the central committee of Chhatra Dal has expelled Zahidul Islam Nahid and Jalil Adik, both joint conveners of the college unit. Additionally, the organisational positions of Arif Molla, Shihab Uddin Siam, and Jihad Hawladar have been suspended pending further review.

A committee has been formed to investigate the incident and provide recommendations on preventive measures, Imam Hossain confirmed. Despite the severity of the clash, no formal police case has yet been filed.
