Eight Senior Police Officers Reassigned

Eight senior officers of the Bangladesh Police, including officials of additional deputy inspector general (Additional DIG) rank, have been transferred in a single administrative move, according to an official notification issued on Thursday, 5 February.

The order was published by the Police-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs and signed by Deputy Secretary Mahbubur Rahman. It stated that the officers concerned—members of the BCS (Police) cadre—have been transferred or posted to new positions and workplaces in the public interest. The directive took immediate effect upon issuance.

According to the notification, the reshuffle affects several key formations of the police force, including the Dhaka Range, Special Branch (SB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Industrial Police, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), Police Training Centre (PTC) Rangpur, and the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU). Such transfers are a routine but significant element of police administration, often intended to strengthen operational efficiency, ensure balanced leadership distribution, and meet evolving security and administrative needs.

Among the notable postings, Additional DIG M A Jalil of Police Headquarters has been appointed as Additional DIG at the office of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Range. He is joined by Mohammad Saifuzzaman Faruqi, previously serving as Additional DIG in the Special Branch, who has also been posted to the Dhaka Range DIG’s office in the same capacity. These appointments are expected to reinforce administrative oversight and coordination within the strategically important Dhaka Range.

Further changes include the transfer of Mohammad Belayet Hossain, Additional DIG of the Khulna Range DIG’s office, to Gazipur Metropolitan Police as Additional Police Commissioner. Gazipur, being a rapidly expanding industrial and urban area adjacent to the capital, has seen growing demands on law enforcement, making senior-level leadership particularly crucial.

In another development, Saheb Ali Pathan, previously serving as an Additional Superintendent of Police (Supernumerary SP) at Rajshahi’s Sardah Police Academy, has been appointed Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (also Supernumerary SP) at Gazipur Metropolitan Police.

The notification also assigns Mohammad Jabedur Rahman, Additional DIG at Sardah, Rajshahi, to the Criminal Investigation Department as Additional DIG, while S M Ashrafuzzaman, another Additional DIG from Sardah, has been posted to the Industrial Police as Additional DIG—an appointment likely aimed at enhancing security in industrial zones nationwide.

Additionally, Mohammad Rashidul Hasan, attached to the Rajshahi Range DIG’s office, has been transferred as an attached Additional DIG to PTC Rangpur. Meanwhile, a previously issued order transferring DMP Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan to the Anti-Terrorism Unit as Superintendent of Police (Supernumerary Additional DIG) has been cancelled.
