Elderly Man Missing From Prison Gate Soon After Release

An elderly man has disappeared under troubling circumstances immediately after his release from custody in Chuadanga, prompting concern among his family and law enforcement authorities. Abdul Mannan, aged 70, went missing from the entrance of Chuadanga District Jail in the early morning of 15 March, shortly after being freed in a case brought by his second wife.

Family sources state that Mannan was released at approximately 5:20 a.m. However, within moments of leaving the prison gate, he could no longer be found. Despite thorough searches in the surrounding এলাকায়, including nearby roads and transport points, his relatives have been unable to trace his whereabouts.

Mannan is a resident of Kansaripara village in Meherpur Sadar. Three days after his disappearance, his family formally recorded the matter at Chuadanga Sadar Police Station by filing a general diary. Although the report was submitted within a reasonable timeframe, the incident only gained wider attention several days later.

His son, Asif Hasan, has expressed grave concern regarding his father’s condition. He explained that Mannan is a stroke patient and has been experiencing partial mental confusion. Furthermore, he has lost sight in one eye, making it extremely difficult for him to navigate independently. At the time he went missing, he was dressed in a simple outfit consisting of a sleeveless vest and traditional pyjama trousers.

Family members believe that his vulnerable physical and mental state may have left him disoriented immediately after his release, particularly given the early hour and the absence of any accompanying support. They have appealed to both the authorities and the general public to assist in locating him as quickly as possible.

The officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, confirmed that the matter is under active investigation. A sub-inspector has been assigned to the case, and police are working to gather information and search nearby locations.
