Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has stated that the Election Commission will not work on behalf of anyone to ensure free and credible national elections.

He made this commitment on Sunday (16 November) at the beginning of a dialogue with political parties at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, organised by the commission.

He said, “The Election Commission is committed to the nation and the people, and it will conduct elections in accordance with the country’s laws, rules, and regulations without favouring anyone.” He added, “Some believe we remain neutral if we work for someone. But we cannot work for anyone. We will follow our conscience and the law, inshallah.”

Explaining the main purpose of the dialogue, the CEC said, “We seek your cooperation in adhering to the code of conduct we have established. We are committed to delivering a fair, neutral, and credible election. Your cooperation is important to us.”

He noted that discussions with the Election Reform Commission and the Consensus Commission have eased the workload of the Election Commission. Due to the busy schedules of national leaders and internal EC work, the dialogue started slightly late, but with everyone’s cooperation, it will be successfully completed.

The CEC identified the biggest challenge facing the current commission as the spread of false and misleading information through AI on social media. He said, “Previous commissions did not face this. Many challenges come from outside the country. Inshallah, with your cooperation, we will overcome this challenge as well.”
