The roadmap for the national election is expected to be announced on Tuesday, 5 August. Following the declaration of the ‘July Charter’ in the afternoon, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, will address the nation later that evening.

It is widely speculated that during this speech, he will reveal the likely date for the National Parliament election, which may take place in the second week of February, before the start of Ramadan.

Probable Election Timeline

According to sources, regardless of circumstances, the election schedule may be declared by mid-December, with the election itself potentially held on Thursday, 12 February 2026. The reasoning behind this timing includes:

Date Occasion/Note
12 February 2026 Possible Election Day
13 February 2026 Friday — traditionally no voting day
14 February 2026 Pohela Falgun and Valentine’s Day
17 or 18 February 2026 Beginning of Ramadan (Roza)

To avoid clashes with these significant dates and religious observances, the election is planned to conclude before the start of Ramadan.

Perspectives from Political Figures and Experts

  • Barrister Nasir Uddin Asim, BNP International Affairs Secretary, commented:

“Holding the election before Ramadan would create a favourable environment for the public.”

  • Dr Md Zakaria, former Election Commission Secretary, stated:

“The voter list updating process has been completed, and preparations can now proceed.”

  • Jesmin Tuli, former Additional Secretary of the Election Commission, added:

“After the schedule announcement, a minimum of 45 to 60 days is required for nomination, scrutiny, campaigning, and other related activities.”

Public Sentiment and Political Outlook

There remains a mixture of hope, anxiety, and uncertainty among the populace regarding the upcoming election. However, many political analysts believe that the vote is indeed imminent.
