Election Staff Will Also Be Able to Vote: CEC

The Election Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible 13th National Parliamentary Election. For the first time, individuals involved in election duties will be allowed to cast their votes, announced Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin.

He made these remarks on Sunday, 28 September, during a dialogue with a delegation of representatives from civil society.

Key Points from the CEC

  • Inclusive Voting: Traditionally, personnel engaged in election duties were not permitted to vote. This time, arrangements have been made to ensure everyone can exercise their franchise, including those involved in the election process.
  • Election Preparedness: The CEC emphasised that the Election Commission is moving forward with preparations and is committed to holding an election that is transparent, credible, and widely accepted.
  • Reforms and Legal Framework: Since taking office, the current commission has undertaken multiple initiatives, including amendments to the RPO (Representation of the People Order). Efforts are also being made to implement provisions under the Postal Ballot Law, which had previously existed but was not actively applied.
