At least eleven people have been killed and around sixty others injured in a head-on collision between two state-run buses in Kummanagudi of Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu.
The tragic accident occurred on Sunday (30 November) evening, according to police. An NDTV report stated that a child was among the deceased.
Police said the front sections of both buses were completely mangled following the collision. Local residents rushed to the spot to assist in the rescue operation, and police later evacuated the injured passengers to hospital.
According to NDTV, one of the buses was travelling from Tiruppur to Karaikudi, while the other was en route from Karaikudi to Dindigul. The driver’s cabin of one bus was nearly destroyed. Footage from the scene showed rows of bodies laid out, bleeding passengers and several people trapped inside the bus.
Last week, another head-on collision between two buses in Tamil Nadu claimed six lives. This fresh accident occurred barely a week later.
